I spent my formative years living abroad, and those years shaped how I move through the world. I learned early how to listen before speaking, how to understand people from their own perspective rather than my own, and how to find common ground across real difference. That foundation underlies everything I do with clients.
I earned my PhD in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and spent 12 years as a faculty member at the University of Iowa, where I directed graduate programs, ran a public opinion research lab, mentored dozens of students, and published research in the areas of science & health communication, media effects, and public engagement. I won awards for my teaching and work and genuinely loved what I did.
And then I ran out of room to grow.
Leaving academia was one of the hardest decisions I have made. Not because I did not know it was right, but because so much of my identity was tied up in it. If you have ever faced a decision like that, where the right path and the comfortable path are pointing in different directions, you know what I mean. That experience is part of why I do this work. I understand what it costs to make real change.
I am based in Madison, Wisconsin, and work with clients around the world.
I believe that people continue to grow throughout their entire lives, not just in the early chapters. I believe that discomfort is worth sitting with and working through, not avoiding. Because the things that make us uncomfortable are usually pointing at something important. And I believe that we do our best thinking and our best work in connection with others, not in isolation.
"Prior to working with Kajsa my college entrance essays were wordy and lacked a certain poetic flow. Through the various essay review sessions, we worked on my personal statement and supplementals. My personal statement went from scattered and essay-like, to poetic and had a clear rhythm and flow. My supplementals got tidied up as well. Thanks to Kajsa my overall application was stronger, and I was accepted into all the colleges I applied to."
